Ignoring the Arrangement of the Larantuka – Maumere State Road, Flotim Regional Government Promises Handling in 2026

REINHA.com – The warning for extreme weather by the Regent of East Flores (Flotim) Anton Doni Dihen in the decision of the Regent of Flotim number BPBD 300.2 .2.5 regarding the determination of the emergency response status for extreme weather natural disasters in East Flores Regency in 2025 was apparently not continued with handling disaster conditions in several locations affected by the disaster.

The reason is that many disaster-affected areas have missed the attention of the Flotim Regional Government (Pemda) in handling them. One of the transportation routes that is threatened with being cut off is on the disaster route in Dulipali village, Ilebura District.

According to media monitoring (Tuesday, 23/12/2025), the state road along the disaster area in Dulipali village is still covered in stone, sand and mud which was carried by floods from Mount Lewotobi and has formed a new flood flow route and has not yet been handled by the Flotim Regional Government.

Slow handling by the Flotim Regional Government caused motorists who crossed this route to complain when passing, especially when it was raining.

The chief executive (Kalak) of the East Flores Regional Disaster Management Band (BPBD), Fredrik Moat Aeng, told this media (Tuesday, 23/12/2025) that he had not placed heavy equipment around the Dulipali area.

“We have limited heavy equipment and one unit is still stationed in Nurabelen village, Ilebura sub-district for cleaning the road there and it was borrowed from a businessman,” said Fredrik Moat.

Regarding the cleanup of flood materials at the Larantuka – Maumere State road disaster location at the Dulipali village disaster location, continued Fredrik Moat, it will be carried out in January 2026 after handling the cold lava flood emergency response.

“In January 2026, we will use one unit of heavy equipment from Maumere, Sikka Regency, to be placed in the Dulipali area to clean up the accumulated flood material,” explained Fredrik Moat.

Regarding the availability of heavy equipment, Fredrik Moat said that his party was also overwhelmed in handling cold lava floods, due to limited equipment. Temporary handling is assisted by private entrepreneurs who have heavy equipment considering that most of the buried routes are economic access for the community.

“Regarding the condition of this heavy equipment, the Flotim BPBD has just submitted a request for assistance with heavy equipment, multi-purpose dump trucks and water tankers to the central National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Flotim Regional Government has received one multi-purpose dump truck unit because other heavy equipment has already been handed over to the disaster area in Sumatra,” said Fredrik Moat Aeng.

The statement by Kalak BPBD Flotim regarding the delay in handling the condition of the Larantuka – Maumere road route until January 2026 drew criticism from the Flotim community figure, Anton Bulet Rebon.

To this media (Wednesday, 24/12/2025) Anton Bulet Rebon regretted the attitude of delaying treatment by the Flotim Regional Government due to the availability of equipment.

“The community doesn’t think whether there is money or not. There is a stock of equipment owned by the Regional Government or not. What the community needs is real action from the Flotim Regional Government and not empty narratives,” stressed Anton Bulet Rebon.

Anton Bulet continued that this road is the main access to support residents’ economic activities and it is mandatory for the Regional Government to take precedence in handling it before other risks occur. Even though it has the status of a state road, said Anton Bulet, the Flotim Regional Government is obliged to build coordination with the parties to ensure the safety of residents who use the road while crossing it.

The limited availability of equipment and the recent request for assistance to the central BNPB, continued Anton Bulet, need to be regretted. Why was the Regent Anton Doni Dihen’s request submitted through BPBD Flotim only when the disaster conditions in Flotim had been repeated for several years and there were major disasters in other regions in Indonesia? This is a form of weakness in monitoring and evaluating the development of disaster conditions and the extent of regional government needs in handling them.

Ahead of the homecoming season for the Christmas and New Year holidays in 2026, said Anton Bulet, it is obligatory for the Regent of Flotim through BPBD to build coordination with competent parties for the smooth flow of traffic on the main road and not delay it.

“If the promise is that it will only be handled in January 2026, does it mean that the Flotim Regional Government under the leadership of Regent Anton Doni Dihen hopes that the pile of material will be as high as a mountain and that harm to residents will only be handled? This is strange,” said Anton Bulet.

Anton Bulet said that the slowness in handling disaster conditions in Flotim, especially the impact of the Lewotobi volcanic eruption, was a form of weakness in the coordination of the Flotim Regional Government internally and externally.

“We can’t expect much from Flotim’s disaster handling pattern like this,” criticized Anton Bulet.

The fact is that the slow progress in handling Flotim disasters, said Anton Bulet, will always be repeated years without a satisfactory picture of development progress from handling small things to big things and everything goes wrong.

“We hope that the Flotim Regional Government under the leadership of Regent Anton Doni Dihen will not continue to display empty narratives but will focus more on real action as expected by the people of Flotim.
